Vendor Placement

After a vendor is created, it is placed into the player's inventory as an object. In this state a vendor itself cannot be sold on the bazaar, to other vendors nor be traded to other players. Vendors may only be kept in the player's top level inventory, and Cannot Be Transferred to containers like the bank or kept in backpacks (even if equipped), chests etc. To place the vendor into a building, the player must click on the vendor object radial menu and select the Drop radial option. This will drop the vendor at the player's current location if the player has administrative rights to the building and if the player has sufficient Vendors skill modifiers to be able to place the vendor.

When a vendor is dropped it always auto-faces due north direction according to the planet maps compass. Players have the option of rotating the vendor by opening up the Rotate radial menu and choosing from one of the 2 options available: Rotate Left, Rotate Right. Each choice will rotate the vendor in 90 degree increments positively or negative. Left rotation moves the vendor counter clockwise from its current position by -90 degrees. Right rotation moves the vendor in a clockwise direction by +90 degrees. Optionally, players may use the /rotatefurniture command to send coordinates manually.

Players are allowed to rotate the vendor so long as the vendor has not been initialized. Once initialized, the vendor cannot be moved around.

Note: With the NGE, soe removed the rotate radial option from vendors and therefore the only method for rotating the vendor at this time is through the /rotatefurniture command. Also note that on the nge, players can /rotate vendors even after they have been initialized.

Note: Vendors count against the housing item limit as well. Each vendor counts as one item in the structure.

Vendor Initialization

Once the vendor has been dropped, the player can initialize the vendor by checking the Initialize Vendor radial option on the Vendor Control radial menu. Initialization is the final intermediate step before allowing a player to begin managing items with their vendor. Until a vendor has been initialized, a player cannot add items to it and it will not appear on the overhead map screen. When a vendor is initialized, it will appear on the Overhead Map if an item has been placed on it. When a vendor no longer has items for sale (as a result of them being bought out or the items have been removed or moved to the stockroom) the vendor will remove itself from the planetary map listing as well as from the overhead map screen.

Vendor Removal - Voluntary

Vendors can be removed (destroyed) by clicking on the Vendor Control radial menu and selecting the Remove Vendor radial option. When a player does this, they are Prompted and asked whether or not they wish to remove the vendor. Upon choosing yes, the vendor is then removed from the game world along with any contents it may have.

Note: Any item in the stockroom that are linked to that vendor or waiting to be purchased (offers to the vendor) or items for sale on the vendor will be deleted when the vendor is destroyed.

Note: Post Pre-cu, SOE has added another step to this process involving entering a serial code, presumably as an added layer to protect players from destroying their vendors with items.

Vendor Removal - Involuntary

Vendors May Also be removed through involuntary act such as:

  • Vendor Activity Checks
  • Vendor Item Stock Checks

Vendors who go too long without being used will get deleted from the game. If a vendor is “un-used” for a period of time, it becomes in danger of getting deleted. When this happens, the player will be sent an email warning. If the vendor continues to be unused after this warning, the vendor gets deleted. The only events that constitute use are placing a new item for sale or a customer purchasing an item.

If a vendor WITH ITEMS FOR SALE goes un-accessed for 100 days it will become endangered. If the vendor WITH ITEMS goes another 100 days, it will be removed.

If a vendor WITHOUT ITEMS FOR SALE goes un-accessed for 14 days it will become endangered. If the vendor WITHOUT ITEMS goes another 14 days, it will be removed.
