Flow analyzer nodes are items that are used to help the player determine which wire to cut during the slicing process. The FAN will direct you as to which wire to cut with a 75% accuracy. The FAN will tell you which line has more power flowing through it, which will be the one that the player needs to cut. These items are not necessary to progress through the slicing events. Game Mechanics

There are five tools available to smugglers for use in slicing, these are the

  • Laser Knife
  • Flow Analyzer Node
  • Molecular Clamp
  • Armor Upgrade Kit
  • Weapon Upgrade Kit

Laser Knife

Laser knives are items that come in stack sizes of 10 and are used up in the slicing process when a player chooses a wire to cut. Each wire cut consumes a laser knife. These items are necessary in order to progress through the slicing event.

Flow Analyzer Node

Flow analyzer nodes are items that are used to help the player determine which wire to cut during the slicing process. When the flow analyzer is used, the slicing window updates to reflect the results and The FAN will direct the player as to which wire to cut with a 75% accuracy. The FAN will tell you which line has more power flowing through it, which will be the one that the player needs to cut. These items are not necessary to progress through the slicing events. This item is used up once the player selects the Install analyzer node option in the slicing window.

Molecular Clamps

Molecular Clamp used prior to choosing a wire will direct players to the proper wire to cut 100% of the time. These items are not necessary to progress through the slicing event. This item is used up once the player selects the Shut the power node with a molecular clamp option on the slicing window.

Do I add a FAN and then the clamp when I am slicing?

No. If you have a clamp use it INSTEAD of the FAN. The clamp will do all the work as long as you know how to follow instructions (HINT: cut the wire it tells you to). It has been said that adding a FAN and a clamp messes with the 100% accuracy of the clamp.

Can I use Molecular Clamps/FANs as a Novice?

Yes, they have no certification and can be used by any Smuggler.

Can you slice something more than once?

No, only one attempt can be made. With the exception of mission terminals which can be sliced once every 2min.

What happens if you fail a slice?

On containers, the container locks forever. On weapons/armor, no damage is done, BUT no one can try to slice the weapon/armor again. On Mission Terminals, nothing.

What happens if you stop a slice before it is completed?

Closing the slicing window or aborting the slicing process will not cause any damage to the item. The item will still be considered unsliced and the smuggler can retry a slicing attempt. The itemm's wires however will be randomized again so new tools will be needed in order to discover the correct one to cut.
