Profession Overview
Weaponsmith abilities are designed around the creation of the most advanced weapons that Star Wars Galaxies has to offer. They can build everything from melee weapons to ranged weapons, and even ammunition. Weaponsmith is an advanced profession and, as such, no other professions have it as a prerequisite. The Weaponsmith requires an Artisan with Engineering IV, before it may be taken.
Abilities
The four Weaponsmith skill lines are: Melee Weapons Crafting, Firearms Crafting, Munitions Crafting and Weapon Crafting Techniques. Let's look at each of these in detail.
Melee Weapons Crafting
Melee Weapons Crafting is the skill tree that develops a Weaponsmith's ability to create melee weapons. At the lower end, they are still creating standard weapons (although more advanced models), but at Advanced Melee Weapons Crafting the Weaponsmith gains the ability to create virbo-weapons. A Weaponsmith who focuses on this tree will be selling their weapons to Brawlers, but they will be sure to build up a loyal customer base quickly.
Firearms Crafting
Firearms Crafting is the counterpart to Melee Weapons Crafting, for it allows the Weaponsmith to create more advanced guns. There is a wide variety of guns that the Weaponsmith may create, ranging from blasters to lasers to acid launchers. A Weaponsmith who focuses on this tree will be selling their weapons mainly to Marksmen, and there is little that a Marksman likes more than a good gun.
Munitions Crafting
Munitions Crafting is a new way for the Weaponsmith to customize their weapons. There are several types of munitions that the Weaponsmith may create, but this tree encompasses more. Besides the ammo types, this skill tree is also home to several grenade and mine schematics, giving the Weaponsmith a very valuable inventory to sell.
Weapon Crafting Techniques
This is a widely under appreciated skill of the Weaponsmith, for it grants the smith no extra schematics. Instead, this is the skill tree that the Weaponsmith will gain all of his experimentation points from. Experimentation points are used to customize a weapon while it is being built, and they are the key to making exceptional weapons (and with exceptional weapons comes exceptional prices). Weaponsmiths who put effort into this tree will find that the guns that they create, although not as advanced a model as they might otherwise be able to make, are better because of their experimentations.
Master Weaponsmiths
Master Weaponsmiths (who have all the Weaponsmith abilities and have obtained Master status) gain additional skill bonuses and access to the most devastating weaponry in the game (including a flame thrower and a rocket launcher).
There are no advanced professions to grow into from Weaponsmith, but it is possible to master Weaponsmithing as well as another Profession.
