Ability Breakdown & Details

Area Track Abilities /area track granted at novice ranger. Range is a fixed/max number of 500m and does not increase with skill. Area Track can only be done outside and while stationary.

When the /areatrack command is issued, a window prompt is made that asks the player to choose what they want to track (based on our skills); Animal, NPC, or PC. Then the player selects what they want to track and there is an searching animation. After 4 seconds, A list of results is then shown displaying all mobs in the radius, or a message saying there is nothing to track in the area. The list or results consists of a the MOB type; displayed as the full critter name including the baby tag if it is one, or the NPC name incliding it's type [such as Ophelia (a Nightsister Ranger)], or a Player's name (no title or faction affiliation is displayed) and a direction and distance, if the player has the appropriate skill boxes trained.

The developers decided that Tracking should be a challenge to the player, and did not provide a simple waypoint to follow. Tracking does provide direction and distance in the higher skill levels which make it easier to locate the quarry. Tracking can NOT find what the server has not spawned yet. This means that you need to have been in the area long enough for a critter to spawn. Ex. You can not fly into an area on a speeder and jump off and track. The server takes a moment to recognize that you are there and will then spawn accordingly.

Different tracking abilities become available to the ranger at certain skill levels:

  • Novice -- animals
  • Tracking I -- animals with compass direction
  • Tracking II -- animals & NPCs with compass direction
  • Tracking III -- animals & NPCs -- Compass direction and distance
  • Tracking IV -- Animals, NPCs & Players -- Compass direction and distance
  • Master ranger - No additional benefits to the tracking skill
