Game Mechanics

Herald npcs are npcs that are used to inform players of particular spots on a planet through dialogue and by issuing waypoints. Herald npcs are classified as "quest" variants and POI dispensor variants. Certain of these heralds are faction affiliated, meaning they will not interact with a player unless that player is of the same faction as the npc.


Most are essentially "waypoint quest" givers and use the same system that waypoint oriented quests use. A player may only undertake one quest at a time, and therefore a player may not interact with one of these npcs if they already have a waypoint quest in progress; and vice versa.

When a player interacts with a waypoint herald npc, the npc will usually engage in a dialogue requesting the player to go visit a location. If the player accepts the request, they are given a waypoint to visit. When the player gets within 80 meters of the waypoint, the "quest" is completed and the waypoint removed from the player's datapad.

The POI dispensor variant heralds will simply offer the player a choice of points of interests to go to without intiating a quest event or other plot device. Upon choosing one, the player receives a waypoint. The player may continually request waypoints and restart the dialogue with either npc.
