Almost any equippable item that is available to players can be given to vendors including no trade items. Vendors are only restricted to the items that they can equip based on gender and species limitations. When a player drops an item onto an npc vendor, the npc vendor will equip items based on the equipment slot they use. If a player drops items on the npc that will unequip a particularly item slot then the item that is unequipped will be in effect deleted from the npc as it is replaced by the new item. For items that are species or gender specific; if these are attempted to be equiped on an vendor, then all items in the slots that would normally be equipped if that vendor fit the correct species, will be removed. For example an ithorian with a jacket and pants on attempts to equip an bodysuit. The jacket and pants on the ithorian be unequipped, however the bodysuit will not be equipped. This behavior was used by players to further customize their vendors through removing unliked/unwanted items and leaving others in a particular fashion.

Game Mechanics

At the Hiring IV skill, players obtain the ability to Customize Vendor Appearances through dropping items onto the npc. When a player gives the npc an item, it will respond by setting itself to a Happy mood type, issue a Proud animation and an appropriate text for the type of item that was given to it.
