Treasure map

Treasure maps in SWG are one of the ways in which a player may obtain looted items in the game. Treasure maps are obtained from random loot from npcs, locked containers, world containers or encoded disks. To use a treasure map, the player must first have the item in their main inventory and click the Read radial on the item. This brings up a prompt which offers the player a choice to close it or to store the waypoint on the map. If the player chooses to store the waypoint, a new waypoint called Treasure Location is created. Since treasure location waypoints can be on different planets, a player may receive a message notifying them that the treasure waypoint was not activated since the waypoint was not for that particular planet. The player will then have to search their datapad for the waypoint and planet to which it belongs on.

A new option appears on the treasure map UI once the waypoint has been stored. In place of the store waypoint option, the Search Area button appears. The Search Area function allows the the player to pinpoint the location of the treasure once they reach the stored waypoint coordinates. Once on the proper planet, the player may activate the waypoint. Upon reaching the target, the player can successfully utilize the Search Area function. After using this, another nearby waypoint is generated, and updates the first waypoint to the exact location of the treasure. As the player nears the treasure, several pirate npcs or bounty hunter (depending on which holo map the player receives) will attack them. After the npcs have been killed the player may use the drum that has spawned and click on the "Extract Treasure" radial option on it. This will open the container and reveal the contents, of which the player may take.

Treasure maps use the shared_treasure_map_base.iff file and appear under the Item category in the Treasure Map section on the bazaar.
