Ability Breakdown & Details

What is "Damage Mitigation"?

Damage Mitigation is a defence against attacks that you get at various points on an Elite Combat Profession tree (eg. Pistoleer, Teras Kasi ).

Mitigation comes in two forms, melee and ranged.

Damage mitigation doesn't reduce the TOTAL damage done to you -- it reduces the RANGE of damage that can be done to you. What does that mean?

Here's the breakdown:

mitigation1 limits damage to 80% of the range (20% reduction)
mitigation2 limits damage to 60% of the range (40% reduction)
mitigation3 limits damage to 40% of the range (60% reduction)

So let's take that example:

Instead of 50 to 300 damage,

With mitigation1 the damage done to you is reduced to between 50 and 250.
With mitigation2 the damage done to you is reduced to between 50 and 200.
With mitigation3 the damage done to you is reduced to between 50 and 150.

The flipside to this means that Minimum Damage is now much more important than before, so your favorite weapon (your 60-500 Krayt modified pistol) might not be so good anymore.

To determine the amount of the reduction the following formula is used:

Max Damage - Min Damage = Range Range x Remaining Percentage = New Range Min Damage + New Range = New Max Damage

Example 1:

To give an example I'll use a weapon with 100-250 Damage against a target with Level 3 Mitigation.

250 - 100 = 150
150 x 0.40 = 60
100 + 60 = 160

This makes the new damage range 100-160.

Example 2:

Jedi Padawan/regular profession hybrid with Master TKA (57 Unarmed Toughness and Melee Mitigation 3), Master Force Defender (45 Jedi Toughness) wearing an AP1 40% Stun PSG, AP1 39% Stun Composite, and that is currently under the affect of Synthsteak (43% damage reduction) is attacked by a Dark Trooper with a base damage of (400-500) using a Stun Baton (AP0 320-330 Stun damage) with One-Hand Hit 3 (4.0 special move damage modifier), while intimidated.

1) Base damage ranges:
min damage = 400 + 320 = 720
max damage = 500 + 330 = 830

2) Melee Mitigation:
mitigated max damage = 720 + ((830 – 720) * ((100 - 60) / 100)) = 764

So, after mitigation, the current attack damage range is 720-764.
