How do I sample DNA?
+
== Ability Breakdown & Details ==
You have to be within 15m of your target and hit your /sampledna macro. Your target must be a creature, must not be in combat, and not leave your 15m range before the process is completed.
+

The highest CL a MBE can sample is 75. The only creature of this level is Mutant Rancor.
+
DNA sampling is the process by which bio engineer players use to obtain DNA Samples to use in crafting generic dna templates. The process involves the player getting within 15 meters of the creature and issuing the /sampleDNA ability. The player must remain within the 15 meter range of the creature for a period of 10 seconds until the sampling attempt is completed. The player is only allowed to sample once on the same creature during this period.

This is an approximation of the highest CL at each skill level
+
Players cannot sample from the following:

Novice BE -> CL 14 (i updated from 12 in accordance to user reply)
+
* Adult Creatures in combat
DNA I -> CL 28 (i updated from 23 accordance to user reply)
+
* Baby creatures
DNA II -> CL 34 (possibly low to)
+
* Humanoids
DNA III -> CL 45(possibly low to)
+
* Dead Creatures
DNA IV -> CL 56 (possibly low to)
+
* Inanimate objects
MBE -> CL 75 (appears to be the cap)
+
* Pets

 +
Targets that may be sampled include:

 +
* Adult Creatures
 +
* Pet Deeds

Note: Creatures do a detection check after you sample. This detection check is similar to the one used for mask scent with ? and ! representing mobs being alerted to your presence and then finaly spotting you

Once you sample you must wait and maintain a 15 meter or less distance for 15 seconds..

At this point one of several things happen. 1. You get a dna sample and nothing happens. 2. You get a dna sample and the rancor aggroes. 3. you dont get a sample and nothing happens. 4 You dont get a sample and the rancor aggroes.

Now depending on what happens at this point determines your next course of action. I forgot to add that getting a sample 75% of the time the animal dies from it and getting master does not affect this. Now on rancors i will say 90 percent of the time no matter of getting a sample or not when your done sampling they aggroe. Also must add once an animal aggroes from dna sample the chance of it aggroing again is increased.

Note that if you sample a critter to death, you CANNOT then extract resources from it. So, apparently the DNA needle also simultaneously sucks out all of the hide, meat, and bone from the critter. Go figure. I'd recommend several things:

You cannot sample babies, pets, humanoid types (ie, the Nightsisters), dead critters, or creatures (in general) with >13k HAM (which usually are >CL70)
